Ho ‘oponopono

Ho’oponopono is a very ancient Hawaiian clearing technique that means “to make right”.“ Ho’oponopono is really very simple” says this student of former Hoo’ponopono advocate and teacher Mornah Simeona. “For the ancient Hawaiians, all problems begin as thought. But having a thought is not a problem. So, what’s the problem?” The problem is that all our thoughts are imbued with painful memories, memories or persons, places or things.” Says Dr Hew Len who has taken Mornah Simeona’s teachings and updated them for today’s world. Joe Vitale who some of you will remember from the film “The Secret”, has written a book about this remarkable healing strategy. The book is called “Zero Limits”. This has given Ho’oponopono a new popularity and zest for life which has enabled Ihaleakahala Hew Len to deliver his important message to the world much more easily, because it seems “now” is the time. His remarkable story began when he cleared the notorious Psychiatric wing at the Hawaiian State Penitentiery in Honolulu in the 1980s.

“The intellect alone cannot solve these problems, because the intellect only manages,” continues the Hawaiian psychologist and Kahuna. Incidentally Huna means “Secret” in Hawaiian and a Kahuna is a “keeper of the secret.” “Managing things is really not a way to solve problems,” he says. “You want to let them go! When you do Ho’oponopono, what happens is that Divinity takes the pain and neutralizes, or purifies it. You don’t purify the person, place or thing. You neutralize the energy associated with the person, place or thing. So the first thing that happens is the purification of that energy.”

The Hawaiians claim that the Universe is made up of information. Information is simply information and is neither good nor bad. However, humans process this information via thought and many of our thoughts are negative because of the memories we have accrued during our lifetimes. Babies are perfect. They gurgle contentedly at the centre of their own Universes. Adults adore them and they adore themselves. So what goes wrong? As the baby grows older this sense of perfection disappears. Why is this? The answer is it disappears because of the experiences, experienced. People point a finger of disapproval and mutter “bad boy!” or “bad girl!” Children learn early to blame. These events give rise to memories and many of them are painful and negative. The purification, Ihaleakala Hew Len talks of, is the purification of these memories. By flattening them we can return to the place of joy experienced by the baby. As a by-product we learn to let go of blame and to take 100% responsibility for our own lives.

“Now, something wonderful happens” says he. “Not only does the energy get neutralized; it also gets released, so there is a clean slate.” That slate is the place of zero limits or babyhood if you prefer. “Buddhists call it the void,” says the sage septuagenarian. “The final step is that you allow Divinity to come in and fill the void with light.”

The wonderful thing about Ho’oponopono is that it takes people out of the intellect and ego because according to Ihaleakala Hew Len, “you don’t really have to know the problem or error. All you have to do is to notice a problem you are experiencing physically, mentally or emotionally. Once you notice your responsibility is to immediately clear by saying, “I’m sorry. Please forgive me.”

A Ho’oponopono session with Huna  Hu’maka’hua Alister Bredée, who first came across this technique 11 years ago when he was studying Hawaiian Huna on the Kona Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii, is an opportunity to learn how experience this remarkable phenomenon in your own life and then to use it to make amazing changes.

Alister largely ignored “Hoo’ponopono for a number of years because he felt it was just too simple. Instead he let go his Huna learnings to concentrate on the Meridian Energy Therapies.

Now, he sees that the time is right to help bring this to the world at large by sharing with as many –people as possible.

“We are here to take full responsibility. The era of the victim is thankfully over. There is no out there, only in here, so when we put ourselves right we work to put the world right.”

A session lasts approximately an hour and it teaches you so that this can be incorporated in your life so that you learn to clean on practically everything that stands between yourself and joy. You do have a choice, you know!
